LETTER OF THE WEEK

Mr. Jamie Hyams of AIJAC wins the award this week for yesterday's response in the Australian to a letter from the Palestine Lobby.

Who’s the intransigent one?

MOAMMAR Mashni (Letters, 3/6) claims all was peaceful in the pre-Israel Palestinian Mandate until mass Jewish migration in the 1920s and 30s. Funny that while the Arab reaction was pogroms and riots that led to Jewish populations, in places such as Hebron going back thousands of years, being forced to flee their homes, the concurrent mass immigration of Arabs into the Mandate didn’t cause a similar backlash from the indigenous Jewish population.

Mashni blames the lack of peace on supposed Israeli intransigence. In 1948, the Jews accepted the UN partition plan but the Arabs rejected it, and invaded. After the 1967 war, Israel offered to return land for peace, and was told by the Arab League there would be no recognition, no negotiation and no peace. In 2000 and again in 2001, Israel offered a full Palestinian state and the Palestinians responded with the terrorist intifada. In 2005 Israel completely withdrew from Gaza and received rockets as thanks.

Leading Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat has recently confirmed on al-Jazeera that in November last year, Israel again offered a Palestinian state in land equivalent to 100 per cent of the West Bank and Gaza, but the Palestinians again refused, because Israel wanted to share the Old City of Jerusalem.

Usually I agree with you Wilburb but Barak Obamas Bizarre oration was nauseating to say the least !

It was all about America being sorry {for what] for giving a home to 7 Million Muslims { a bullshit figure more like half but hey who's counting] and the number one country for Muslims to immigrate to, educate their children , invest and holiday.
It was all about what Israel should do blah blah..

What about the Muslims how are they going to change their ways , have we heard any major policy changes come out of any Arab/Muslim countries are they going to stop supporting terrorists , inciting hatred towards Americans Jews or infidels .Will they start giving residency the Palestinians living in their countries instead of using them as cannon fodder to keep the Israeli/Arab war going.
What about the dozens of conflicts around the globe involving Muslims will they allsuddenly stop... What abut Usama, Amadinajad, Hamas, Hizbollah will they changes their ways.. yeh sure!
What will the Muslims offer to improve relations..answer nothing.. Obama is one of the best orators in the world but at the end of his term he will be in the same position as Clinton and Bush on the Middle East still at war with the Islamists with the same Muslim countries supporting them.... The Arabs and Muslims do not want relations with the west on our terms they want relations under their terms..preferably with out Jews ..

Next sorry speech by Obama will be to the Japanese for making them so angry that they attacked Pearl Harbor...
