It's interesting to note that even the Arab Lobby which is vicious in its criticism of anything to do with the Jewish State (including its existence even though it claims to support a two state solution - I'll leave that one to you to work out) was invited along and refused to attend for the most tenuous of reasons.
A spokesman for Australians for Palestine, Moamar Mashni, said he was invited by Mr Dadon to accompany the tour as a non-participating observer.
However, he declined because "I was happy to participate as long as it was meaningful, but not to sit in an audience and hear others speak."

I'm sure MOamar would go to Israel if his comrades and supporters Richter,Altman, Fagenblat { and his Jewish studies Dept] and Loewenstein gave him the nod.

In agreeing to lead a privately organised delegation of politicians, business people and academics to Israel, Julia Gillard’s political timing seems to have deserted her (”Gillard to head mission to Israel”, May 26).
Israel is still under investigation for war crimes in the recent Gaza war, its new government has refused to commit to a two-state solution and its policy of building settlements in the occupied territories continues apace. The US and other governments are mulling changes of policy to force Israel to the negotiating table.
Gillard’s endorsement of the trip sends the wrong message at the wrong time. Business as usual and cultural exchange are exactly what are at stake if Israel’s policies continue. For its long-term security, the human rights of the Palestinians and peaceful co-existence in the Middle East, Australian politicians need to convey this message to our Israeli colleagues as clearly as possible.

Funny bugger. Complains that Israel refuses to commit to a two-state solution but neglects to point out that the other side refuses to recognise the Jewish State or remove threat of destroying it altogether. If he bothered to read the Road Map, he would understand that the two-state solution is dependent upon the Palestinians taking certain first steps. That was six years ago and we're still waiting.
