Today's Australian reports that the head of the Supreme Islamic Shia Council of Australia, Kamal Mousselmani claims his entire community supports Hizbullah which it considers a "resistance group" and not a terrorist network. He also lashed the Howard Government over its support for Israel.

The nation's most senior Shia Muslim cleric is delusional. When Hizbullah attacked Israel in July 2006 killing eight and capturing two Israeli soldiers (who it still holds) while raining down missiles on populated Israeli centres there was nothing for the movement to resist. According to the United Nations Israel had left every square inch of Lebanon in May 2000. Hizbullah is an illegal armed group and, as such, it should have been disbanded or banished from Lebanon. Its leader is well known for his openly anti-Semitic statements.

Of even more concern is that fact that a man of religion should be associated with this:

"Sheik Mousselmani said all of Australia's approximately 30,000 Shi'ites were avid supporters of Hezbollah (Party of God) and haters of Israel."

The 36-year-old cleric is reported to have also said "the Shia community in Australia took its religious orders and advice from Iraq's supreme Islamic leader, Grand Ayatollah Ali Husaini al-Sistani."
