LEUNIG MISSES OUT

Abdollah Derkaoui of Morocco this week inherited the mantle of the foremost racist in the art world (a title officially vacated since the days when Adolph Hitler used to paint walls in Munich) after he was awarded first prize in Iran's Holocaust art festival - Moroccan wins first place in Iran Holocaust cartoon contest.

The winner would have had some stiff opposition from a vile Michael Leunig cartoon originally entered as a practical joke by a member of the ABC's satirical Chaser programme. When the artist was informed of this, he apparently threw a fit and promptly had his cartoon withdrawn. He later thanked the nice Iranians for their kind consideration in removing his piece from the exhibition.

Leunig's picture was a cheap and nasty attempt to draw equivalence between the deaths in combat of 52 Palestinians, the vast majority terrorists involved in the suicide bomb making industry of Jenin in 2002, and the slaughter of millions of Jews at the hands of the Nazis. The then Age editor, Michael Gawenda, saw the Leunig cartoon for what it was and refused to publish. This, in turn, upset Leunig's mates on Media Watch who thought the message it imparted was worthy of an airing.

It's a bit of a shame that the Iranians let Leunig off the hook so easily.

I'm by no means an expert on cartoons, but in my view it would have been one of the favourites. Indeed, I'll go further and state that Mr. Derkaoui stole the idea for his work from Leunig himself. The winning cartoon depicts Israel's security barrier as a mirror reflecting the image of Aushwitz which is interesting in itself given that the sponsors of the competition reckon that the Holocaust was a myth!

Perhaps Leunig, who seems to get on so famously with the Iranians, could redeem himself by paying his mate Ahmadinejad a visit with a request that he stops his anti Semitic ranting and puts an end to his nuclear weapons programme.

And then perhaps pigs might fly too!

The real bastard is Leunig for selling out to the misogynist Hillaly. His 1 November cartoon tells us that this once great cartoonist is now more interested in sidling up to the Islamofacists than condemning the comments of a deranged man that have caused a great deal of hurt to a substantial segment of the community.

I fully understand how deeply resentful and hurt the Jewish people would feel about his filthy Auschwitz cartoon.

And one of those mates now writes for the Age so its even cosier for him.

MICHAEL Leunig claims he is not an antisemite – but he is an anti-Zionist and a pro-Palestinian advocate, which is his prerogative. He should declare this to Age readers, the same way any other contributors to the newspaper would have to declare their advocacy for any particular party they were referring to.

An example of Leunig’s advocacy was his attendance at an exhibition by Palestinian activists, financed by the United Arab Emirates and attended by their ambassador, hosted by a Palestinian group at a gallery connected with Liberal MP Sussan Ley, chairperson of Friends of Palestine; the exhibition was launched by another Palestinian advocate, Julian Burnside QC.Leunig wrote the foreword to the Palestinian activists’ catalogue.

I can’t imagine the Age ever engaging a pro-Zionist advocate cartoonist spewing out anti-Palestinian cartoons how quickly would all the lefty age readers and terrorist appeasers choke on their Brunswick kababs if that happened!

If you focus on the winning cartoon it should be obvious that all is in the eye of the beholder.

The Aushwitz picture in front of the Muslim quarter of Jerusalem really sums up the whole story of Palestinian Arabs and their embrace of the most virulent strain of anti-Semitism the world has seen. It fits in properly with the fact that the spiritual leader of the Palestinian Arabs sat by Hitler's side during WW2 and helped in implementing his final solution against the Jews, that the Palestinian terrorists groups vowed to wipe out the Jewish state by force of arms and that the elected palestinian govenment today has a charter which cites the anti-Semitic "Protocols of the Elders of Zion" and calls upon its people to "kill Jews everywhere".

The cartoon is therefore an ideal testament to the racist intentions of the Palestinian terror groups and the maniacs like the ayatollahs and Ahmedinejad and the useful idiots in the west like Leunig who support them.

A point well made Champion. It's all in the eye of the beholder. I still behold this Ahmedinajad and many Muslims as the ultimate hypocrites. They kill people and burn buildings when they're offended and then they go out and do something grossly offensive like this disgusting cartoon competition.

Do you realise that Loonig's carton is far from being an original. He basically stole the idea, originally written to condemn Nazis persecution of Jews, and twisted some of the words from a famous poem (see below) by changing the word "Jews" to "Palestinians".

"First They Came for the Jews"
By Pastor Niemoller

First they came for the Jews and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for the Communists and I did not speak out because I was not a Communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me.
